Design Disrupters Summary

In this movie, I learned that even though graphic design can be considered an art, there is a big difference between the two: art is often used to make more questions whereas graphic design is often used to answer questions and solve problems. What I thought was interesting was the amount of creativity and brainstorming goes into designing a mobile app, website, or interface for everyday people to use. After watching this movie, I feel more inspired to pursue a career in the graphic design industry.

Kit Henrich Recap

From Kit Henrich's interview, I learned of his background and how he started off in graphic design and how he got to where he is today. He's done numerous projects with his design group, Pentagram, and from there he started his own studio, Henrich Studios, where he also did some great works of art for many different clients including large companies and museums. He has had years worth of experience under his belt. And even though, he is 68 now, I agree with what he said about graphic design not being an age-specific or bounding career field; Graphic Design is for all ages and does not end until you want to stop.

Michael Bierut Recap

In this video, Michael Bierut talked much about his past experiences in his field of Graphic Design. From his experiences, I learned much about being a Graphic Designer. For example, how graphic design could be used poorly which could cause problems like in his story about voting for Al Gore. However, he also talked about his positive experiences where graphic design can be used for good purposes like how he made the signs in the park that tell people to pick up their dog's poop.

Marian Bantjes Interview

I really liked seeing Marian work because her creative process is very interesting to observe. I also liked seeing all of completed projects because they all show how unique and varied her ideas and concepts are. It just shows her abstract and elaborate her thinking and creative process are. She is a great graphic designer and admired by many others, I hope to someday be unique and creative as her in my work.

Jessica Hische Video Recap

What Jessica and Eric did said and did in their video really inspired me. I was really amazed at the amount of work and dedication that goes into their work and projects. I agree with what Eric said about all ideas being born on paper because no matter where you complete the project, whether it being on paper or on the computer, drawing is a required basic skill for this career. I also liked seeing all of the different kinds of projects they each worked on together and individually since it gives you a glimpse of what they do and what is required of them to complete it. My favorite project was Jessica's book cover designs because they looked very interesting and she probably put a huge amount of work and effort into that project.
